I’ll never forget the conversation that changed my career forever. Early in my military career, I was speaking with a senior officer, a U.S. Army colonel, about my new job. As he was explaining the challenges of the job, he noticed the perplex look on my face. He paused during our conversation and said to me, “You are a lamb in a lion’s world.”
At first, I was shocked and did not know how to process that information. But then the U.S. Army colonel said something that would shape my mindset forever. He warned that unless I learned to handle intense pressure and assert my strength, the very system I served could break me.
That conversation awakened something deep within me. From that point, I focused on not only molding my career but my identity. I learned to move with intention, to lead with conviction, and to carry a quiet power that needed no permission. What could have crushed me became the very ground I rose from.
That inner shift laid the foundation for every bold decision I made from that point forward.
